Re: No Audio output device installed
This is a post at Technet which I found to be working for me. Try it and report back.

Source: No Audio Output Device - TechNet Forums

I believe I have a solution. (posted by copperminecottage), credits to him/her if it works.

Scenario: I bought a new Sony Vaio on Sunday, and upgraded Vista to Vista Ultimate yesterday. Immediately the sound system fell silent. After following other suggestions I checked the updates I had installed following the upgrade to Ultimate. Windows and discovered that Update for Windows Vista (KB929685) says:

"Install this update to address an issue that may prevent high-definition audio devices from initializing after resuming the system from a sleep or hibernation state."

I had put the PC to sleep around that point.

Here is what I did next:

In Conrol Panel -> System -> Select the Device Manager and find the Sound entry. Expand it. Click the entry for High Definiton Audio Device with the right mouse button. Uninstall it and the software too (check the box).

Now put the PC to sleep. When it restarts it will reinstall the Audio device. Meantime the update above (KB929685) seemed to have kicked in and PRESTO - sound again!

Worked for me. Good luck.

SOLUTION TO ALL YOUR PROBLEMS!!!!!!!

ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS SEARCH FOR UPDATES, CLICK ON START BUTTON ON THE DESKTOP THAN CLICK ON ALL PROGRAMES AND FIND "WINDOWS UPDATE" ONCE YOU HAVE FOUND IT CLICK ON IT AND WAIT PATIENTLY FOR 5-10 MINUTES, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY FIND THAT YOUR COMPUTER HAS NO AUDIO DEVICE ANS IT WILL INSTALL MISSING FILES AND UPDATE AS THE SAME TIME, HOPE IT WORKS, WORKED FOR ME, LEAVE FEEDBACK, THANKS

Hi!! I found this interesting article: Listed in the Internet as "Creative blasted over crappy Vista Audio drivers, threatens......" I think it would be positive to first try uninstalling and then installing various things in the Media Center first- in regards to SP1 problems.

Hi devgrover

I had a similar problem with my Dell Laptop that was a driver issue.
Like Kemical says in the previous post, try your makers website for the latest drivers. If that does not work check device manager and try updating present driver to later version. Still no joy, try rollback to previous driver(still in Device Manager). If you have still no audio you might try Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC that worked for my self. (Dell Inspiron)

Post back with your laptop specs. if none of these things work!!

Hi!!! I'm not being flippant... A lot of files-were damaged by SP1. It may help to re-download missing or damaged files. Like Rhapsody for example. There are a couple of articles from HP that may help a little: "HP Notebook PCs- Resolving Sound Problems when Unplugging a USB" and "HP and Compaq Desktop PCs- Resolving Sound Problems in Windows Vista" Sincerely, Celestra

Hi Everyone,

I had the same problem with no audio output device. I redid my computer an lost the sound. My computer is a dell so i went to dell.com typed in "Dell Sigmatel STAC92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver" in the search area. clicked on the first option, downloaded it an my sound came right back. Hope this helps you with this frustrating problem!

Hmm.....Anyone who admits to be horrible with computers will unlikely be able to give a recommendation or otherwise on the values of vista.
If you are having problems with vista, please be a little more explanatory than using short phrases such as "VISTA SUCKS". After all the forum is here to help share your thoughts and problems with others.
