Windows Vista Services/Aero Problem
Need assistance in posting a windows vista problem: Have Dell Laptop E1705 running windows vista ultimate 32 bit. Upon turning on computer or restarting computer the windows services does not conistently load all services. Windows aero does not display properly. Windows Color and Appearance does not list Windows Aero only standard and classic. Windows Theme does come up as Windows Vista. I can fix problem by doing check disk however this should not happening. Can anyone provide a fix for this problem.

Re: Windows Vista Services/Aero Problem
You may need to update your graphic drivers which you should be able to find on the Dell website.. Even if you have the latest drivers try re-installing them. Lastly, have you been able to run the aero desktop before or are you trying to turn it now? The reason I ask is if your graphic card is not up to spec it will not run the aero interface...

Re: Windows Vista Services/Aero Problem
Thanks for your response. Aero has been working. It happens that when I re-start that the problem occurs. I get a notice in lower right that windows failed load all its services and that I can use the event viewer to diagnose the problem. I can't seem to make any sense from looking at the event viewer. I can usually bring aero back by doing a check disk. I have had this problem sporadically since upgrading the software. I have increased RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB and installed another hard drive. The version of Windows Vista is Ultimate and it is an upgrade version. My Dell came with Windows XP Media Center. I actually had to install the Vista over the Dell. When I upgraded my Hard Drive I had to first install the windows Xp then do the vista. I think I may be having this problem because of some configuration that lingers from the Dell configured XP. I have just ordered a lesser vista version full version. I will install this first hoping to leave behind any possible traces of the Dell Xp Media. Then I will install the Windows ultimate. If this doesn't fix the problem I not sure what will. Apparently the state of the software is degraded if all the services do not load. Windows Vista is somewhat limited in its capabilities because trying to do backup has failed. Thanks, williamekennedy

Re: Windows Vista Services/Aero Problem
I did download the latestst windows vista video drivers from the dell website. I also went to the ATI website for the video drivers but since my pc is a laptop they direct users to the laptop manufacturer for latest drivers. Thanks, williamekennedy

Yup thats right, laptop drivers are always (usually) from the laptop manufacturer although there are a couple of specialist sites like LaptopVideo2go which do modded drivers for laptops:

You may be right about the vista install and xp install conflicting and a clean install may fix the problem.. Have you tried a system restore to an earlier time?
