Vista and Nasa tv
Hi, I have a new laptop with Vista and old PC with XP, I cant always watch nasa tv on the laptop but old faithfull PC with XP gives good streaming video every time, while the Vista set up just locks everything up and I have to kill it with task manager and do several restarts until it works. everything else seems fine. I dont know if the problem is with Vista, Nasa or Kontiki, which should be OK
any suggestions?

Hi!!! There have been complaints that video streaming has been interfered with by SP1. A lot of the complaints about SP1 are from the Media Center. What kind of Internet connection do you have ? Example: I can't watch T.V. using Dial-Up, however, I can watch old recorded T.V. shows via the Linksy's. - which is a radio type broadcast. You sound like someone who might get a kick out of Google Earth, you can play with the Hubble Telescope.

Do you get any messages when you try to stream video? Like perhaps, a message to visit the Adobe Website "plug in already installed"? Some people with notebooks have had to uninstall the Flash Player and then re-install it. I'll get you the particulars, if that be the case. Sincerely, Celestra

Re: Vista and Nasa tv
Thanks Celestra
I have a broadband connection which clocks 6/7/mbs. the problem seems to be with the nasa site only but I dont know if this is a problem with my set up or with the nasa site. The Vista is nice to work with but are they all this slow to start up, it's a dell by the way

Celestra, I think you may be on to something with the adobe flash player because it does sometimes mention that I should up date but at the adobe site there are no updates I dont already have

Hi Douglas,

what celestra means is that you have to 'uninstall' the flashplayer first and then re-install it. The uninstaller can be found on the flash player site but it's not obvious.. I know this because I've had to do the same before.. I'll have a quick look and see if I can find it..

Found it:
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Re: Vista and Nasa tv
Hope that works because if not, I have a few other things we can try. Some one fixed their streaming video problem with this: (He kept getting the message: page cannot be found- Media Player) This is it-- In the control panel>Internet options>connections>LAN settings be sure Auto detect (proxy) settings is checked -OR- In Internet Explorer>tools>Internet options>connections>LAN settings be sure Auto detect (proxy) settings is checked. There is also an interesting discussion listed in the Internet as: WAN/NAS to stream video-Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion 12-31-07 (Unfortunately, I have come to realize that in Vista, we are ultimately responsible for speed. The more I look at Vista, the more I think Bill Gates has some secret plan to turn ordinary people into computer programmers. If you think I'm wrong, take a look at Windows Vista Inside and Out. Most people aren't prepared, it's like taking a course on Computer Science)
