| | | Re: random lockup on games Hi guys thanks for the replies i flashed the BIOS to the one dated 21/01/08 still no joy locked up after a few hours on Crysis.
I have looked at the Northbridge and there is a very weedy looking fan on the heat sink there, facing down away from the CPU HSF.
I have run this system on clocked values and overclocked and it makes no difference.
I made sure all shadowing in the BIOS was turned off as well, again no difference.
Also tried the Microsoft "Virtual Address Space Fix", and installed SP1 for Vista.
I think that this combination of Hardware simply does not work, and have strong negative feelings towards Nvidia over this 680i motherboard. I found another post where someone else binned there's.
I have a graphically inferior PS3 and i hate gamepads on FPS games, but I'm still considering giving up and getting a (desktop replacement) laptop now, and never attempting to PC game again, which is a shame as i have been until the last year (when i bought this PC) been playing PC games since Doom.
I think Nvidia owe the gaming community an apology for producing such a bad product in the 680i, its the cost to my happiness that bothers me.
I will continue to search for answers for the next couple of weeks then its the scrap heap for this PC.

| | | Re: random lockup on games Hi!! There's an interesting article I think you guys can use for inspiration: nVidia nvlddmkm Vista Driver Fix - Here is the Solution | i.nconspicuo.us solution/ In my personal opinion, I'd rather play my games on an XBOX 360 and attach my Vista to that. Why torture the computer, these game designers care very little for the health of your computer...... Best Luck Celestra

| Thats such a shame though! You really have a killer system right there and hopefully there is also a solution to your problem..
Have you tried the Nvidia forums? Try here: NVIDIA Forums? I hang out in there once in a while and it's a good forum for Nvidia owners..Which driver are you using at the moment? Plus, just to 'tick the boxes', have you tested your memory?

| | | Re: random lockup on games Hi!! I know how everybody feels on the topic of games. I still have trouble occasionally, but it is better. I bought my notebook for communication and work and got caught up with game problems because they were installed on my machine. There are so many functions that these computers need to do.... these games are mean, just think about that for awhile. (Microsoft Vista Home Entertainment- by Microsoft) It's a book about using Vista and the XBOX 360 P.S.-- That article I included earlier, he does solve the problem. He can use the game for only 6 hours!!! Without SP1. They were pretty cool I thought, this was written in August 2007.

| | | Re: random lockup on games Ah!!! spoke to soon..... Now having problems with duplicate images, music rises after I put it down. Blaster Ball was no problem, Hyperballoid has a slight problem. They allowed a little design your own game in Blaster Ball-it was frustrating because it wasn't much. Hyperballoid you can design spectacular!!, but I hope it's not that time and space thing. (Music seems to be more problem with newer games) Just Games...

| | | Re: random lockup on games Scrapped the PC i did like the 2.92ghz speed for video encoding but a gaming rig that cant play games was to much. I still blame Nvidia over that 680i motherboard, so despite my laptop, and the desktop replacement one i have ordered unfortunately having an Nvidia chipset, if i ever have the choice i won't ever buy there products again. Fast is one thing, actually working though is priceless.
There are people who will spend stupid amounts of money on items, and there is always someone who has a system that little bit better or faster, so to the comment from the guy who wants to brag about his PC spec, one word "pointless". | |
